About
Featuring visiting artists CZ and Pok tè Pok, supported by local legends Andromeda Monk and Evan Hardy.
Resonant Performance is made by Teflon Spine for Conduit Gallery. It challenges genre as a navigation device for the landscape of human creativity in sound arts, and gathers community around unique contemporary artists. It is immersive and welcoming.
It is a "noise show" in that little of the presented material is idiomatically coherent with the consumer product called "music." It is not a noise show in that relatively few acts will cohere specifically with the consumer demands of harsh noise.
I will be encouraging us to enter blind or study ahead as befits our respective rituals, and expect a rich, comfortable evening of community, deep and distant listening, curiosity and expression.
There'll be refreshments, there's a chill-out courtyard, and there are no stairs from the street to the venue area. Tape Loop will also be open during our event, and you are encouraged to learn about and purchase the media, clothing, books and ephemera on display.
Conduit Gallery is humbly situated on the occupied and unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are uninvited guests on what is now called the Downtown Eastside (DTES) of Vancouver.
The DTES is a community that continues to be harmed by the workings of colonization and settler-imposed power structures, particularly the war on drugs/war on poverty. Conduit Gallery operates in this awareness, seeks to be respectful of the neighbourhood and street entrenched folks, and is invested in the ongoing work of resisting this violence and creating sustainable communities that benefit people that need support.
