Meredith Moon
Meredith Moon began playing several instruments and writing songs at a young age, inspired by growing up in a musical family, her father being singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. In her teenage years, she found her sound as a busker on sidewalks from Halifax to Vancouver, and began travelling her home of Canada, and the world, by means of road and rail, finding inspiration for her unique style of songs which are often based on her travels, and crafted in a true storyteller’s fashion.
Besides playing traditional tunes often ‘non-traditionally’, Moon presents a powerful voice and highly contemporary clawhammer banjo style which has gained acclaim within the international old-time music community. Moon incorporates finger-style guitar, piano and lap dulcimer, among other instruments, into her performance. Beginning in her teenage years in her friend’s living rooms and DIY spaces, her audience has evolved throughout the last decade with many milestones under her belt. Moon has played many Canadian folk festivals , and has toured North America extensively, as well as Central America, the UK and Western and Eastern Europe. She has collaborated or shared the stage with countless notable musicians in the Folk and Roots Music sphere.
Her first full-length album, “Forest Far Away” was released independently in May of 2018, and she released “Constellations” on True North Records/Linus Entertainment in March of 2023. Her second release garnered international acclaim; was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and was featured on the Folk Alliance International Top 10 Album Chart two months running in April and May 2023, along with other notable Americana charts.
Ghostly Hounds
Ghostly Hounds is the soulful folk-noir & old-time project of Francesca Mirai – a singer-songwriter and banjo player from Canada’s West Coast. Drawing inspiration from many genres, Francesca has become known for their unique vocals. They captivate audiences with a clear, soaring range, powerful projection, and just the right amount of grit, coalescing elegantly with traditional and modern banjo instrumentals. Ghostly Hounds is known for having a “double take” inducing performance, to which audience members often ascribe terms such as “haunting” or “enchanting”.
Ghostly Hounds began on the streets of Montreal in 2015, starting off busking before quickly transitioning to live music venues across the city. Their debut album, Creature, was released in 2017, followed by In the Rubble in 2022. Over the past decade, Francesca has toured extensively under the Ghostly Hounds name, with performances ranging from solo sets to a full five-piece band.
