Gadfly

Gadfly is the brainchild of Iranian artist Homa Khoshnavaz, who created the band as a way to express her displeasure at the treatment of women in her country. She pours her anger and frustration into creating a strained and heavy sound that dabbles in noisy psychedelia. With Nigel Young on drums and Raine Menard on bass, the trio keep things tight, yet right on the edge of chaos. Now split between being based out of Vancouver and Montreal, the band focuses on pushing high energy, sweat-inducing performances that continue to prove to audiences why they are currently one of the best bands in Canada. In July 2024, Gadfly released their sophomore album “Sura” making a splash all across the country . It’s a much faster and punk oriented approach from the band this time around, but still a heavy hitting affair filled with nihilistic lyrics sung in both English and Farsi. Keep an eye out for them as they continue to play shows across Canada, drop the occasional single, and never let go of the notion of woman, life, freedom.
