Cat Madden
Squamish based artist "Cat Madden" has come a long way since landing in Canada in 2015. She recently debuted with her band at the inaugural Squamish Constellation Festival and you can catch them playing regular shows in Vancouver at the likes of Guilt & Company, The Roxy and The Railway Stage and Beer Café. Cat humbly gifts you some of the most powerful, raw singing you've ever heard and intertwines it with captivating vocal jazz licks. Writer of the bands songs; Cat also holds down the fort on rhythm guitar. Alongside her is Alberta's finest Marcus Ramsay bringing his country rock n' roll style to the table with incredible dexterity, charismatic slide solos and an entertaining and energetic stage persona. Together, drummer Drew Crome and bassist Art Barrientos infuse tantalizing grooves with soul drenched low end in a powerhouse rhythm section. They transfer you effortlessly from finger clicking swing to intricately patterned pandemonium to Woodstock-era influenced rock. Virtuoso keyboardist, Phil Laessoe, puts the cherry on top with incredible playing and subtle rounding touches. Often likened to a cross between Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse, the band are an eclectic mix of classic styles and carry that old soul vibe with a modern twist. Really it's just laid back-heart-warming-hard-hitting-soul-wrenching-music... fuelled by passion and performed genuinely. That's all.
