King Bob
Jackson McDonald has been kicking around the fringes of Victoria BC's DIY scene for most of the last decade, most recently as bassist for nerd-rock band The Plodes, while also serving as co-frontman of synthpunk duo Timing X from 2015 to 2020. Following an extended Covid-induced hiatus, McDonald has offered up "Depresh Mode", a collection of home recordings that stand as his first official solo release under the moniker King Bob. After teaming up with friend and longtime collaborator Evan Matthiesen (of The This, The Projectors) earlier this year, he has just dropped "Figure it Out", the first single from the forthcoming full length album produced my Matthiesen with a full band featuring Reid Blakley of Plodes, Jimbo Rai of The This and Jes Matthiesen of Fall Fair Car.
Similar to alternative pop punk artists such as PUP and Jeff Rosenstock, but also reminiscent of 90's rock and punk such as Green Day and Weezer, on "Figure It Out" singer/songwriter Jackson McDonald sings relatable lyrics lamenting the late capitalism age and feelings of fading youth.
