Kurt Loewen
He is not sure how he got here, but through the influence of Needlework Saturn, Kurt has arrived to share his stories of love, loss and travel in the way only bummer songs can. Open Your Heart.
Loewen's EP, Anyway (2021), is a collection of piano centered ballads with the lyrical focus on presence, change, addiction and recovery.
2020's Becker Lake was a creative reawakening touching on the open heartedness and strength found in new love and possibility. The 8 song, 12 track record are conversations and time capsules of various experiences, locations, and studios between August 2018 and August 2020. The album was entirely self produced, and engineered by Loewen with exception of I'll Die Here which was engineered by Andrew Brown at the Riverside Shack in Duncan, BC.
Loewen's debut solo record, Heavy & Low (2019), is a collection of songs about relationships, love, change, and moving on. Though largely a rock record packed with guitars, omnichord, banjo and string arrangements the album honours Loewen’s roots beginnings. The live experience is both a succinct and distinct representation of the record brought to life with a 5 piece band. A sonically disparate recording compared to previous projects, Heavy & Low is a candid and frank offering speaking to the challenges and beauty in the connections we hold close.
