Teenage Art Scene

Victoria

Teenage Art Scene is a Victoria based collaborative power-pop and slacker rock project composed of Rupert Yakelashek (guitar, vocals), Marco Bernardez-Lai (guitar), Will Jagger (bass) and Huckleberry Flett (drums). Originally Rupert Yakelashek’s solo recording project, Teenage Art Scene’s homespun back-catalog extends as far back as 2019. The band’s progression is evident, with each self-released album entertaining a distinct sonic palette - from the blistering pop-punk riffs of Spill (2021) to forays into synth-pop on Pipes on the Inside (2023). Following their debut as a full live band at the start of 2024, Teenage Art Scene has gone on to perform alongside local and touring acts such as The Umbrellas (CA), Still Depths (AB) and Immaculate Machine (BC).

Format Wars, Teenage Art Scene’s forthcoming release is their most collaborative album to date, aiming to translate the fuzzed-out live sound to eight concise songs. Crate diggers by heart, the band’s influences are reflected in the album through its sonic variation in both composition and recording technique. The warbly tape saturation of the debut single “LP”, an alt-country ode a-la Pavement, contrasts with the blaring Sonic Youth esque stereo panned guitars of “Cassette” to an end result that is equally dirty and compressed as it is punchy.
