West Street Children
West Street Children is a punk rock/alternative band from the Corner Brook, Newfoundland. The band started in 2004 when twin brothers Michael and Mark picked up a guitar and a bass and began writing songs, with themes relating in everything from worldly events, to personal emotions and the struggles of growing up. As the years progressed the duo pick up drummer Michael Staples (aka. Stapes) and began playing shows at local bars, festivals, and city events; with the two brothers even playing at the ECMA's in 2009. Just as the band began expanding, Stapes had to leave the province for university so Mark and Michael moved to St. John's and picked up drummer Mitch Squires - a high energy fast paced and highly skilled drummer. The trio clicked instantly and began a new era playing the St. John's/Mount Pearl scene at local venues, eventually performing at the annual UROCK awards. In 2013 Michael and Mark left St. John's and returned back to their hometown of Corner Brook, where they were reacquainted with long-time friend and drummer Stapes, whom they started playing with once again. In the summer of 2019 the brothers moved across Canada, to Victoria, British Columbia, to pursue larger musical endeavours. The band has currently released two full-length studio albums, three EPs, and various music videos and singles. The band has just announced a new album dropping some time in late 2024.
